47 Ronin Golf Tournament

Yesterday I played in the 6th Annual 47 Ronin Golf Tournament at Hawaii Kai Golf Course. The name of the golf tournament got its name from the 1703 historical account of the 47 Master less Samurai, or “Ronin,” of Edo, Japan. Originally each player played all 47 holes, but it has now turned into a tournament of a team of 3 to 4 players playing 47 holes total. We finished all 47 in 4 hours! My fellow "Ronins" were Cory, Baron and Jay. It was a lot of fun and I made new friends. What I'll remember most is the "The Pink Lady," the view at the third hole, and golf carts that should have been bumper carts.

Sony Open Part II

Today was the final day of the Sony Open. As you know, K.J. Choi, who had the lead from day 1 won the Sony Open. Today he was able to hold off Rory Sabbatini to claim his seventh PGA victory. He had a huge following today. Another player who also had a big gallery was Kevin Na (pictured to the right). He turned pro at the age of 17 and to date has earned more than $3 mil. On his last hole he made an eagle to tie for fourth. Another guy who tied for fourth was Steve Marino (pictured above). Both these guys earned approx $208,000 today... not bad for four days work.

Other than being a little windy, it was a nice balmy day in Hawaii. Perfect day for golfing. However, I was cold even when the sun was beaming on me... but what is new?

Sony Open

If you read my prior entry, you know that I got two Sony Open passes from volunteering at the Sony Open Pro Am event, so today I went to check out the Sony Open with my friend Abe. Abe had been there before, but it was the first time that I had been to a PGA golf tournament so I was pretty excited to check it out. I golf a little, but I am not very good and very much appreciated watching all the players... they make it look so easy!

I watched Tadd Fujikawa play a couple of holes, but the highlight was watching the "new Tadd Fujikawa", Punahou's Alex Ching. Abe read about him in the newspaper and from what I saw, he has a lot of great potential. He is super awesome too... was nice enough to take a picture with me! Unfortunately both of them did not make the cut, but hopefully both will be back for another Sony Open!

Boy Band & Golf

So I titled this entry "Boy Band" because I know if I had titled it "Backstreet Boys" no one would want to read it. Not to say that "Boy Band" is any better, but at least it adds to the curiosity of "which band is it?" "NSYNC?" "98 Degrees?" "Backstreet Boys?" etc...

Anyway, back to my entry... Tonight I volunteered the Sony Open Pro Am Awards Ceremony that was at the Hawaii Convention Center.
To much of my surprise, I found out later in the evening that the Backstreet Boys were here (along with 50-100 groupies that were flown in, winners of some contest) just for this event. It was awesome. If you don't know, Backstreet Boys are back together after a long hiatus... I am not ashamed to admit that I know a couple of their songs and it was pretty awesome watching them actually sing them in person. AND, since it was a private event, we got to go right up to the stage during the concert... These guys were literally 5 feet away from me!! One BB even posed for my picture. It was pretty cool... Not to mention I got two free passes for the Sony Open week event, the new Backstreet Boy CD, and a Sony Open hat. Coolness.

Juno

The other week I watched "Juno", which is about a 16-year old girl dealing with her unexpected pregnancy. If you want to go to a movie for pure entertainment purposes this is the one. Unlike most movies, this is definitely one you will feel you got your monies worth. The witty dialog and the perfect performance by Ellen Page kept me laughing throughout the movie. Michael Cera (Superbad) also did an excellent performance of "the boy next door." The soundtrack is pretty good too...

Highly recommended. To watch the trailer or listen to the soundtrack click http://www.foxsearchlight.com/juno/

Back to Blogging

So I haven't written on my blog for a while and after reading a frend's blog I have been inspired to write again. Let's see... what have I been up to? I guess I have been really busy with work, school, and other random things. But the latest is that as of today, I finally finished school! YIPEE!!! It has been 10 years in the making and I am so relieved it is finally over. Not having to open a text book, write a paper or research articles under duress of an eight AM deadline will be like an empty void. Maybe I'll fill the void by writing in this blog...
